About Sadiq Khan
Sir Sadiq Aman Khan (born 8 October 1970 in Tooting, London) is a British politician and human rights lawyer serving as the Mayor of London since May 2016. Raised in a working-class British‑Pakistani family, he studied law at the University of North London and began his career as a solicitor specializing in human rights before entering politics. He served as Member of Parliament for Tooting from 2005 to 2016, held ministerial and shadow cabinet roles under Gordon Brown and Ed Miliband, and became London’s first Muslim and first ethnic minority mayor upon his 2016 election. As mayor, he implemented policies including the Hopper fare, the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), and congestion charge reforms, and was re‑elected for historic third terms in 2021 and 2024. Knighted in the 2025 New Year Honours for political and public service, he continues to lead the city as one of its most influential figures.
