About Marco Rubio
Marco Rubio, born May 28, 1971, in Miami, Florida, is a Cuban‑American politician and lawyer. He graduated from the University of Florida and earned his law degree from the University of Miami. Rubio began his political career as a city commissioner in West Miami, then served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008, including as Speaker from 2006 to 2008. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010 and served until 2025. In January 2025, Rubio became the 72nd U.S. Secretary of State under President Donald Trump—becoming the first Hispanic to hold that office—and was confirmed by a unanimous 99–0 Senate vote. He has also served in acting roles as National Security Advisor and Administrator of USAID.
